Our Château Journey
Château de la Boutinière is a project that grows a little each day. This page brings together the smaller moments of our restoration – the progress we make, the unexpected discoveries and the day-to-day work that doesn’t always appear on the main pages of the website.
We use this space to share short updates, photos and videos as the story continues to unfold. It offers a more informal look at château life and the quieter steps that gradually shape the estate.
We also share parts of our journey on YouTube and social media, so if you enjoy following the behind-the-scenes side of château life, you can follow us there as well.
A Festive Farewell to 2025 at Château de la Boutinière
Christmas at the château never happens all at once. It arrives slowly, over several days, as rooms are dressed one by one and the château gradually begins to feel warmer, fuller and more expectant. This year was no different. We spent days...
Our First Marquee Wedding is Planned
We wanted to share our plans for the coming year, because weddings are once again high on the agenda. This was not originally part of the plan. We had expected to open properly for weddings in 2026. However, an unexpected opportunity came along....
Looking Back on Our First Weddings
We have now hosted our first two weddings, and it has been a massive learning curve for us. In many ways, it feels as though we have come full circle. The last few weeks have been intense. Within the space of about a month, we hosted two weddings...
Adventures at Château de la Boutinière
This year has been exceptionally busy at Château de la Boutinière, with many different projects happening at once. One of the biggest decisions we made was to tackle the wedding garden. Weddings are going to be a crucial part of our long-term...
Happy Holidays 2024 from Alison and Zion
We can hardly believe another year has gone. It feels as though 2024 has simply evaporated. It has been an incredibly busy year. There has been a lot of concrete involved — perhaps more than we ever expected — and at times it has felt as though...
A Very Sad Loss and a Busy Summer
It has been a busy summer at Chateau de la Boutiniere. We have hosted our first two weddings, which were a huge success.
Sadly, we lost my dear mum Rosemary in May. She was our inspiration to buy the chateau and our biggest supporter.
Wedding Garden Progress
In our latest vlog, we talk about the progress in our wedding garden.
It has been such a wet summer which has slowed down our progress with our wedding garden. We have finally managed to get outside to make some progress.
Home Alone
In our latest vlog, I talk about what I’ve been doing with Zion still away.
More bargain hunting at the local brocante, which is always a great day out. I’m also making plans for our first wedding, which is very exciting and nerve wracking.
While Zion was Away
In our latest vlog, I talk about what I’ve been doing while Zion has been away.
I really enjoy visiting the brocantes in France and have been bargain hunting, which is one of my favourite pastimes. I’m quite excited about my finds.
Old Chateau Photos Discovered
In our latest vlog, we talk about the old photos we came across of the chateau.
The photos tell us more about the rich history of the chateau before we bought it. It seems it was used as a church. It has been fascinating to see these photos.
Our First Video Blog (Vlog)
You can watch our fist vlog on our chateau adventures. Hear how our lovely old hunting lodge floor started to rise. It was very concerning as you can imagine.
There are always new challenges at Chateau de la Boutiniere, but they never phase Zion.
Château De La Boutinière Review of 2023
January - our château rocks! In January, filming of the preparation of our wedding garden was drawn to a halt by the discovery of rocks just below the surface soil, preventing us from carrying out the wedding garden design we had set our hearts on...
