Staying in a French château offers the chance to live within history rather than observe it. With our Chateau stays in France, guests experience life inside a working nineteenth-century château, shaped by its setting, its rhythms, and the people who care for it.

At Château de la Boutinière, guests are welcomed into a privately restored château, where heritage, daily life and the surrounding countryside form the backdrop to each stay.

All Chateau stays at Château de la Boutinière are based on a minimum two-night bed-and-breakfast stay for two guests in a Château Suite. Each stay includes a three-course evening meal for two, including wine, on one evening, served in the château. Additional nights are available for guests who wish to extend their stay.

Five different Chateau stays are available, each centred on a specific experience offered during your time at the château. While the focus of each stay differs, all are hosted personally by Alison and Zion and include time spent within Château de la Boutinière and its grounds.

Behind the Scenes

This chateau stay offers a closer look at the ongoing restoration and the daily rhythm of living in Château de la Boutinière. Guests are given a personal tour of the château and estate, where they can see both past and current projects. You may watch work in progress or even join in, and if your dates coincide, you may catch filming for Château DIY. Zion will talk through the processes behind his craft and designs, while Alison will answer questions about interior design and living in a château. The experience can be tranquil or more hands-on, depending on your own enthusiasm for château life.

If you have a special birthday, anniversary, or simply fancy treating yourself to a two-night, three-day break, this stay is designed for relaxation. Spend time in the château and its gardens, stroll through nearby villages, or sit and watch the sunset with a glass in hand. Guests are given a personal tour of Château de la Boutinière, and on one evening Zion will prepare a special candlelit dinner, served in the château’s magnificent dining hall.

Spend two mornings exploring the region’s brocantes, antique shops and village markets with recommendations tailored to the season. Browse furniture, artwork, vintage pieces and curiosities, and discover the character of rural French market culture. Your visit also includes a tour of Château de la Boutinière, offering insight into how restoration and heritage connect naturally with traditions of reuse and craftsmanship.

Wine Tasting

Enjoy an introduction to local wine producers and the distinct flavours of Nouvelle-Aquitaine wines, shaped by the season and availability. Meet local wine experts for a guided tour and tasting at their private vineyard, followed by a light lunch. Depending on the time of year, there may also be opportunities to take part in seasonal vineyard activities such as pruning and tending vines. Guests will be given a tour of Château de la Boutinière by Zion and Alison, and on one of the evenings Zion will prepare a special three-course dinner for you, served in the château.

Châteaux Tours

Guests are given a comprehensive tour of Château de la Boutinière by Zion and Alison, covering both past and current projects. You will also explore the surrounding area, home to more than eleven châteaux of different ages, styles and sizes. Depending on the dates of your stay, you will visit two local private châteaux for guided tours, and a full-day visit to one of France’s most significant historic châteaux will be arranged for you.
