Gites Stays in France

Gites Stays in France at Château de la Boutinière

Our gites in France are self-catering accommodation set within the grounds of Château de la Boutinière, offering privacy and independence in a rural French setting. Each gite is fully self-contained and designed for guests who prefer their own space while staying on a historic estate.

Each of the French gites includes a double bed, a contemporary shower room with WC, and a dedicated workspace with free Wi-Fi. The kitchenette is equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, sink and fridge, allowing guests to prepare meals at their own pace throughout their stay. A private terrace provides space to sit outside, whether for breakfast, an evening drink or time outdoors.

For guests travelling together, two French gites can be connected via an interlocking door, offering flexibility for families or groups while maintaining privacy when needed. For others, the layout allows for a quiet, uninterrupted stay with no shared interior spaces.

The Estate and Grounds

The French gites sit within the grounds of Château de la Boutinière, set across 52 acres of woodland and parkland. From the moment guests step outside, the estate is open to them, with views across the countryside and clear sightlines back to the château.

Paths run through the grounds and into the surrounding woodland, offering space for walking at different times of day. Some routes follow open parkland, while others pass beneath trees and along quieter stretches of the estate.

The château gardens provide further space to sit or walk, with areas that catch the light at different times of day. Time on the estate can be spent walking, reading, sitting outside, or simply being outdoors. The setting is rural, so you will need transport to make the most of your stay.

Because the gites overlook the château and its surrounding land, guests remain connected to the estate while maintaining their own space and routine throughout their stay.

The Surrounding Area

Beyond the château gates, the surrounding area offers a mix of villages, rivers and historic sites that are easy to reach without long journeys. The setting suits guests who prefer to explore at their own pace rather than follow a fixed itinerary.

The nearest village, Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé, is a short five-minute drive from the estate. Set along the River Gartempe, it offers a traditional village atmosphere and everyday amenities, including a well-known local bakery. Many guests choose to visit in the morning or early evening, combining a walk by the river with time in the village.

A little further away, Angles-sur-l’Anglin is listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Its medieval ruins rise above the river, with narrow streets, stone houses and open views across the valley. It is well suited to a half-day visit, with time to walk through the village and along the riverbanks below.

The River Gartempe runs through the wider area and offers several access points for canoeing. Walking and cycling routes also follow the river and surrounding countryside, connecting small villages and quieter stretches of land.

Within around twenty minutes’ drive, guests can visit the Abbey of Saint-Savin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site best known for its extensive Romanesque wall paintings. The abbey offers a focused cultural visit, with time spent exploring the building itself and the surrounding village.

Also, around twenty minutes away, La Roche-Posay is a thermal spa town centred around wellness and leisure. Guests can spend time in the spa facilities, walk through the town, visit cafés and shops, or simply enjoy a slower day out without travelling far.

For a longer outing, Futuroscope Amusement Park is approximately forty-five minutes away and offers a full-day visit with rides, exhibitions and interactive attractions.

Throughout the region, local brocantes, markets and small antique shops appear regularly, offering opportunities to browse, stop for a coffee or explore without planning far in advance.
